Financial Aid – Need Based

Introduction

Lovely Professional University offers Need-Based Financial Aid to support students from specific categories whose annual family income falls below the prescribed limit, ensuring that financial constraints do not become a barrier to higher education. The benefit under this scheme shall be applicable only to students who are not eligible for, and/or are not availing the benefits of, any other scholarship or financial aid scheme offered by the University, subject to satisfying the eligibility criteria and timelines.

Who Can Apply

Applicability: An applicant not availing the benefit of any other financial aid or scholarship scheme can apply for the benefits of this scheme.

Categories: An applicant who belongs to any of the categories covered under the scheme, i.e., Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and special categories that include Single Girl Child, Single Mother, Students from Minorities, Transgender, and Non-Traditional Student. (For more details, refer to definitions, i.e., point-5)

Benefits Offered

A total of 100 seats are offered in 6 different categories the scheme. For details refer table below:

Definition of Categories Considered and Other Terms

  • Economically Weaker Section: Any applicant whose annual family income is less than Rs. 5 lakhs will be considered as a person from an economically weaker section of society.
  • Single Mother Child: Any applicant who is the child looked after by the mother alone without a husband or partner; The woman may be divorced or whose husband/partner is deceased.
  • Single Girl Child: An applicant is the only child of her parents, and she has no other biological or legally adopted children. This means she does not have any real brothers or sisters.
  • Students from Minorities: An applicant belonging to Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, and Zoroastrians (Parsis) communities will be considered students from minority communities [according to Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992].
  • Transgender: Any applicant whose gender does not match with the gender assigned to that person at birth and includes trans-man or trans-woman (whether or not such person has undergone Sex Reassignment Surgery or hormone therapy or laser therapy or such other therapy), person with intersex variations, genderqueer and person having such socio-cultural identities as kinner, hijra, aravani, and jogta. [THE TRANSGENDER PERSONS (PROTECTION OF RIGHTS) ACT, 2019].
  • Non-Traditional Students: Any applicant or adult learner having an extended study gap between studies, i.e., 12th and under-graduation or under graduation and post-graduation; and the applicant has not joined any course in regular or distance education or other mode during that gap period. The Ph.D. programme will not be considered the scheme. Study Gap will be the primary determining factor for considering his/her candidature for benefits under the scheme for non-traditional students. Applicants who have a minimum of 5 years of study gap from their last educational qualification (regular/ distance/ correspondence/ online) can be considered for the undergraduate programmes (UG or UG Lateral Entry after 10th/12th/diploma), and a study gap of a minimum of 7 years from the undergraduate educational qualification can be considered for postgraduate programmes. First-time education with a minimum gap will be considered, for instance, if an applicant enrolled for a course (degree/ diploma/ certificate) during the last 5 or 7 years (as applicable) and has discontinued the course or the course is incomplete due to any reason, the applicant cannot be considered for the benefits under the scheme.
  • An Income Certificate issued by a Concerned Authority (Tehsildar, District Magistrate, Collector, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, or other relevant authorities) in the State/UT Government is required in respect of the parent/ guardian of an applicant in all the categories or subcategories (a computerised income certificate issued by Sewa Kendra will be preferred).
  • Annual Family Income: Consolidated annual income of all the earning members in the family, that shall also include income from all sources i.e., salary, agriculture, business, or profession, rent or other sources for the financial year prior to the year of application (i.e., for admission in 2026-27, the income earned from April 2025 to March 2026 can be taken to get your income certificate. In case the income certificate is prepared or issued in the previous year(s), then it must have validity till 30th September 2026, and the same must be mentioned on the certificate).
  • Concerned Authority: The applicant is required to provide an affidavit under different categories that must be duly signed and stamped by the concerned authority, which means not below the rank of Tehsildar. The Executive Magistrate, District Magistrate, Collector, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate may be considered under the concerned authority. Note: In case, an applicant is a minor (less than 18 years), the affidavit can be countersigned by the parent/ guardian or can be submitted by the parent/ guardian for the applicant.

Programme Considered

The applications are generally accepted in all regular programmes, Honours without tie-ups, and regular with no scholarship. However, programmes with tie-up, work-integrated, Research i.e. All Ph.D. and After Ph.D. are not included for benefits under the scheme, or any other programme decided by the university.

Application Process

  • Fill all the details in the application form (Refer to Application Form for Need-Based Financial Aid-2026).
  • Colour Scan all the relevant documents to be submitted (Do not share the photographs clicked with a mobile camera).
  • Submit the application along with applicable documents through email to financialaid@lpu.co.in. The subject of the email must have: Application for Need-Based Financial Aid – name of Applicant.
  • In case an applicant is visiting the University campus or the designated offices of the University in various cities, the scanned copy of the application and applicable documents are to be emailed to financialaid@lpu.co.in. by a university official or by the applicant before the due date.
  • The application can be submitted before or after admission.

Note: The applicant should clearly mention details/ information pertaining to the scheme, and scanned documents must be readable. Application(s) can be submitted in more than 1 category, and he/she must apply separately by filling the application form for all the categories along with relevant documents for the same.

Important Dates

  • Last date of application will be 31st May 2026.
  • Result Declaration: The result of the applications will be declared by 15th June 2026.

Document Requirements:

  • Application Form for Need-Based Financial Aid-2026.
  • Income Certificate issued by a Concerned Authority in the State/UT Government.
  • Income Declaration by the applicant on the university Performa.
  • For EWS: Economically Weaker Section Certificate issued by the concerned authority in the state is a mandatory requirement for general category applicants, and for other caste certificates (OBC/ SC/ ST) are mandatory.
  • An affidavit as per the prescribed Performa of the university is required on a stamp paper of minimum Rs. 100/-; the affidavit is to be duly signed and stamped by the Tehsildar or Executive Magistrate.
  • Note: Applicable to Single Girl Child, Single Mother Child, Students from Minorities, and Transgender Categories.
  • Supporting Documents: The death certificate of the husband or divorce certificate (whichever is applicable) is to be submitted compulsorily by applicants of the Single Mother Child category; Minority Certificate issued by the concerned authority in the state/UT is required from students from minorities; Identity Certificate issued by the concerned authority in the state/UT to transgenders. Transgender applicants can apply for the Identity Card/Certificate from https://transgender.dosje.gov.in/.
  • Education Documents: Applicant is required to submit the mark sheet of 10th (Matriculate) compulsorily, along with the education result or mark sheet of the eligibility qualification.
  • Gap affidavit as per the prescribed university Performa. The gap affidavit must be duly signed and stamped by the concerned Sarpanch/ Member Gram Panchayat/ Mayor/ Member Municipal Corporation.

Selection Process

The applications complete in all respects will be presented before the committee for final selection.

  • Criteria-1: Income of the parents/ guardian/ applicant (if employed) (Lower to be preferred) in each category or subcategories.
  • Criteria-2: Financial Aid percentage (Lower will be preferred). Preference shall be given to applicants who are not availing benefits of any other financial aid scheme or scholarship offered by the University. In case of a tie between two or more applicants as per criteria-1 and/or criteria-2, then the following tie breaker will be applicable.
  • Tie Breaker-1: Preference shall be given to ‘percentage marks in the eligibility qualification’ of the applicant (higher percentage marks will be preferred).
  • Tie Breaker-2: In case there is a tie between two or more applicants, then ‘Date of Birth’ will be considered for breaking the tie, and applicants senior in age will be preferred.

Note: In case the result of the previous education qualification is not available for any reason, then tiebreaker-2 will be applicable to all those applications instead of tiebreaker-1.

Intimation of Selection

The applicants will be intimated through an individual email from financialaid@lpu.co.in. by 15th June 2026.

Terms and Conditions

  • Facilities: Applicants who wish to avail themselves of facilities such as transportation, swimming, gym, parking, residential facilities (stay, mess, and laundry etc. including food and laundry) will be liable to pay for the same.
  • Insufficient information or incomplete documents will make applicants ineligible, and such applications will not be processed/ presented before the committee. In case an applicant is eligible for financial aid as well as for any other monetary benefit under any other scheme or policy of LPU, then he/ she has to opt for only one scheme of his/her choice.
  • Other Terms and Conditions: All other conditions as mentioned under the head “Terms & Conditions for LPU-Scholarship, its different phases” in Part-B of the Prospectus or on the university website will also be applicable.

I am expecting to get around 60% marks. Will I get any scholarship?
LPU offers a variety of scholarships to support all deserving candidates. A candidate can get scholarship on the basis of one’s performance in LPUNEST or on the basis of other scholarship schemes offered by university like based on the score in qualification previous to eligibility qualification, performance in sports, cultural, R&D, co-curricular, social service, bravery awards or performance in national level tests like JEE (Main), NEET, UCEED, CAT, MAT, GATE, GPAT etc.
