Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal is the Founder Chancellor of Lovely Professional University (LPU) and a Member of Parliament in India’s Upper House (Rajya Sabha). He is a law graduate from Guru Nanak Dev University and a Doctorate ‘Honoris Causa’ from Atal Bihari Vajpayee University (ABVU), Chhattisgarh, India. Dr. Mittal distinguishes himself as a dynamic visionary who has made difference to the lives of lacs of people around in the shortest possible time. He believes in reinforcing his own personal values through work that is true to his own ethical beliefs.

In 2005, he founded LPU, which is amongst one of the largest single-campus university in India with more than 35,000 on-campus students and 50,000 distance and online mode students from all states of India and 50 countries across the world. He introduced dramatic improvements and innovations in education delivery and holistic development. On his insistence, World’ largest five-day science spectacle and congregation ‘106th ‘Indian Science Congress (ISC)-2019’was held in campus, inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. Under his able leadership, LPU became first private university in India to be granted the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) accreditation and received the highest NAAC Grade A++ with Score 3.68, the highest among all Government and Private Universities of India. Being a distinguished visionary, Dr. Mittal has also been invited to the University of Oxford to address its students and staff.

He has been appointed to many prestigious Parliamentary Standing Committees (DRSCs) viz. Member, Committee on External Affairs (Sept. 2022 - June 2024), Member, Council of Schools of Planning and Architecture (Aug. 2024 onwards) and Member, Committee on Finance (Sep. 2024 onwards). He has been an esteemed member chosen to represent our great nation at the global forum ,148th Assembly of the @ Inter- Parliamentary Union at Geneva and at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia.

He is actively involved in numerous community service initiatives for the needy and the disabled. His steadfast commitment to promoting sports is evident in the institution’s substantial financial support and access to sports facilities to all. He has awarded cash prizes to Asian Games participants as well as to students participating in the Paris Olympics- 2024 and has introduced scholarship programs particularly for female students.
