Objective of the Policy
The purpose of introducing teaching fellowships is to attract meritorious and research-focused scholars to pursue a Ph.D. at LPU. These fellowships are intended to produce quality scholars with relevant training for academic and academic-related careers in teaching and research. The University hereby introduces teaching fellowships to engage scholars in quality research while enhancing their teaching skills.
Eligibility Criteria for Teaching Fellowship
The fellowship is available to Ph.D. scholars with strong communication and teaching skills. Preference will be given to:
- NET / GATE / GPAT qualified candidates.
- Scholars from premier institutes.
- Scholars with previous teaching and research experience.
Duration of Fellowship
The fellowship shall initially be granted for one academic term only. However, it may be extended based on the scholar’s satisfactory performance and the availability of teaching assistant positions in the concerned department/school.
Details of Fellowship
- The teaching fellowship awardee will receive an honorarium of ₹21,600 per month (consolidated).
- The scholar is required to take a teaching load of a minimum of six credits and up to 10 contact hours per week.
Fellowship Selection Process
After completion of coursework, the scholar shall submit an application in the prescribed format to the Centre for Research Degree Programmes, along with a copy of his/her resume. The list of candidates will then be submitted to HR for further processing.
Disbursement of Fellowship
The disbursement of the fellowship shall be processed by the Division of Human Resources, in accordance with the applicable terms and conditions.
University Research Contingency Policy (For Ph.D. Scholars Batch 2024 Onwards)
The University provides a contingency of a maximum of ₹30,000 for the first 4 years of the Ph.D. programme. This amount may be used by Ph.D. research scholars for the purchase of required materials, including consumables, glassware, and analysis purposes. The following points outline the usage guidelines:
- Ph.D. scholars may avail the ₹30,000 contingency amount, with a maximum of ₹10,000 per year during the first 4 years of their Ph.D. programme.
- The ₹10,000 per year contingency amount must be utilised within the same year. Remaining funds cannot be carried forward to the next year.
- The contingency amount can be used for the purchase or analysis of materials as per the list below:
- Consumables: This includes chemicals, media, culture, microorganism strains, or any similar consumable items.
- Glassware: This includes glassware specifically required for carrying out the research work.
- Analysis: This includes the analysis/testing of samples prepared during the research work, such as NMR, XRD, material testing, EDX, SEM, TEM, etc.
Note :
- Scholars cannot use the contingency for upcoming years in the current year.
- In case of an urgent need for chemicals, the scholar may purchase them through the respective Head of Lab (HOL) to avail the maximum discount benefit from the supplier. The bills can be reimbursed through the HOL once the chemicals are received by the respective HOL. Only bills made in favour of Lovely Professional University will be reimbursed.
- Only bills from the current financial year will be processed for availing the contingency amount. Bills from previous financial years will not be entertained.
- If the scholar wishes to purchase any additional items not included in the definitions above, they may submit a request for approval through their supervisor to the Centre for Research Degree Programmes (CRDP), with the recommendation of their respective Head of Schools (HOS).

Duty Leave for Coursework
- Two-hour weekly relaxation to attend coursework classes on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM without taking leave.
- Extended PPW (Pay Proportionate Work) Policy: Faculty can avail leave to carry out research work and will be paid based on the proportion of official contact hours on campus. The leave can be availed as per the existing University Policy.
- Fee waiver will be applicable as per University Policy.

University Travel Grant Policy for Ph.D. Scholars for 2025-26 (For National & International Conferences)
To attract quality scholars and enhance their visibility at various platforms, LPU proposes to provide financial support to Ph.D. scholars in the form of a Travel Grant for attending National and International conferences. The objective is to enable scholars to explore the latest research trends and gain a better experience in their field.
1. Eligibility
All Ph.D. scholars of LPU are eligible to apply for travel grants to present research papers in Scopus indexed conferences (National/International) within India or abroad. Travel grants can only be applied for after the completion of the State of the Art Seminar (SAS) and before the pre-submission seminar. The eligibility conditions are as follows:

- The University will provide a total of 20 National Travel Grants and 5 International Travel Grants across all schools of the University each year.
- Maximum limit: Up to 5 National Travel Grants and 2 International Travel Grants can be awarded to scholars from the same school per year.

Note
- Cheapest airfare (economy class) and train fare (3AC) will be considered under this policy.
- The scholar must submit boarding pass, air travel tickets, and other receipts in support of T.A. (including local travel expenses), lodging charges, and registration fees within 10 days of return for settlement.
3. Terms & Conditions for Travel Grant
- 3.1 A Ph.D. scholar shall be eligible to avail a travel grant for presenting a paper in Scopus-indexed conferences as per the following:
- One-time grant for a conference held within India and one-time grant for a conference held abroad.
- The presented paper in either conference (within India or abroad) must be indexed in Scopus conference proceedings.
- Expenses covered under Clause 3.3 shall be reimbursed only after the presented paper is indexed in Scopus, subject to verification and recommendation by the Division of Research & Development (DRD), LPU.
- 3.2 Not more than two research scholars shall be provided financial assistance to attend a particular conference. If the number of applicants exceeds two, preference shall be given to the scholar with the highest cumulative score (Impact Factor/SJR value) of research publications indexed in Scopus. In case of a tie, preference will be given to the scholar with a higher number of citations (excluding self-citations) in published work.
- 3.3 The scholar shall submit the prescribed application form (Annexure-I) duly signed by the supervisor, along with the invitation letter, acceptance letter of the research paper for presentation at the conference, and a No Objection Certificate from co-authors of the research paper to the Centre for Research Degree Programmes (CRDP).
- 3.4 Recommendation of the screening committee members (Head, CRDP and Nominee, DRD) shall be required for considering the application for a travel grant.
- 3.5 The application shall be processed through the proper channel for approval by the Vice-Chancellor.
Reimbursement Process
- The Ph.D. scholar shall submit details of expenses covered under Clause 2.2, along with valid documentary proofs and a copy of the published paper indexed in Scopus, to the Centre for Research Degree Programmes (CRDP) for verification and recommendation by the screening committee.
- Upon verification, CRDP will forward the documents to the Division of Research & Development (DRD) for final reimbursement settlement, in accordance with university policy.
- Incentive benefits shall not be granted for papers presented/published in Scopus through the Travel Grant scheme.
