Lovely Professional University (LPU), in collaboration with the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) on 02th March 2024, organized a specialized educational visit for civil engineering students to a dam site focused on Dam Break Flow Analysis, reinforcing its commitment to Clean Water, Sanitation, and Water Security. The activity emphasized disaster risk reduction, dam safety, and sustainable water resource management through hands-on learning in risk assessment, emergency planning, inundation mapping, breach simulation, hydrograph analysis, and downstream flood wave routing. Students explored both 1D and 2D hydraulic modeling using tools such as HEC-RAS and GIS, enabling them to analyze real-world flood risks and water system dynamics of dam breaches with practical training in hydrodynamic simulation and emergency preparedness. This initiative enriched students’ technical expertise, built awareness of disaster resilience, and inspired them to contribute to sustainable water infrastructure.

Lovely Professional University is focused towards water cleaning projects in collaboration with the industry & government in Punjab using Geographic information system (GIS) and machine learning technique for the betterment of our nation. LPU collaborated with various local regional, national and international government bodies on water security. In this pursuit LPU conducted a yearlong field survey at local levels and this survey reveals that providing access to clean drinking water can have important effects beyond nutrition and general health, with help of projects aimed at providing clean water account for people’s perceptions of water quality and promote good hygiene practices.
In addition, this project aims at assessing and mapping the groundwater contamination in the Punjab region by making use of satellite technologies, GIS, image processing, and machine learning-based techniques.
