World Tourism Day Celebration 2024
World Tourism Day is celebrated every year on 27th September to promote awareness among the international community about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value. In line with the UNWTO’s global celebrations, the School of Hotel Management and Tourism, LPU took the initiative to organize the World Tourism Day Celebration 2024 under the theme "Tourism and Peace."
5th International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals and Tourism
The 5th International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals and Tourism (SDGT-2024), themed Embracing People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace & Partnership, was held from February 27 to March 1, 2024 at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara, in a hybrid mode. Organized by the School of Hotel Management and Tourism, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Walia, Professor and Associate Dean, the event collaborated with esteemed organizations such as Western Sydney University, Critical Studies Association Asia Pacific, ATLAS (Association for Tourism and Leisure Education and Research), and the IGU Commission of Tourism and Leisure.
Sustainable Tourism Indicators and Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Tourism Indicators and Sustainable Development Goals event, held on February 26, 2024, at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Block 15, was organized by the School of Hotel Management and Tourism, LPU in an offline mode. Featuring Assistant Professor Siamak Seyfi from the University of Oulu, Finland, as the guest speaker, the event attracted 80 participants. LPU’s initiative educated local and national communities on sustainable tourism indicators, emphasizing their role in tracking progress toward the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. This outreach program empowered stakeholders to make informed decisions, promoting balanced economic, social, and environmental outcomes in tourism management.
Alumni guest lecture on Community-based tourism for socioeconomic development
The alumni guest lecture on "Community-based Tourism for Socioeconomic Development" highlighted sustainable land management for tourism. Zahid Ahmad Zargar, Managing Director of Al Aroush Tours and Travels, emphasized preserving natural landscapes while promoting tourism that benefits local communities. He discussed minimizing environmental impact through eco-friendly practices like waste reduction and renewable energy use. Community involvement in tourism planning ensures equitable economic gains and cultural preservation. Educational outreach programs, like this lecture, promotes awareness among stakeholders about balancing tourism growth with land conservation. The event, attended by 43 participants, underscored the importance of sustainable tourism for long-term socioeconomic development.
Cleanliness and Awareness drive at Phagwara Railway Station
On 28 Sept 2024,LPU-NSS volunteers from Lovely Professional University (LPU) took part in a cleanliness drive at Phagwara Railway Station. The initiative aimed at promoting the importance of maintaining a clean environment in public spaces, highlighting the need for cleanliness in everyday life. Tree Plantation Drive - LPU Alumni Association Delhi NCR Noida Chapter - Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam
On 1 December 2024, the Division of Alumni Relations, in collaboration with the LPU Alumni Association Delhi NCR Noida Chapter, organized a Tree Planta- tion Drive titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at A Block, Pocket A, Sector 19, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with 29 participants. The event honored the nurturing essence of mothers and Mother Nature through tree planting, aiming to increase green cover, support biodiversity, and encourage sustainable environmental practices through alumni collaboration.
Workshop and Rally on Swachhta Progrrmme (Cleanliness Drive)
On 29th March 2024, LPU-NSS organized a One-Day Workshop and Rally on Swachhta Programme. The event was conducted at Lovely Professional University and its adopted villages. A total of 100 volunteers and participants actively took part in the activities. The programme focused on spreading awareness about cleanliness and sanitation. Guest Lecture on Sustainability in Tourism and Finance
LPU observes World Sustainability Day every year on the last Wednesday of October, emphasizing the protection of land, flora, and fauna through sustainable practices. On October 30, 2023, the School of Hotel Management and Tourism-II hosted an online guest lecture by Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Nag on “Sustainability in Tourism and Finance.” He explained how financial tools such as Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) and bootstrapping support sustainable tourism, while stressing their role in preserving native ecosystems and promoting environmental stewardship.

This event focused on the shift from simple to responsible consumption in the tourism and hospitality sectors. It highlighted the significance of green consumption for gaining a competitive advantage and explored the role of social media in promoting sustainable practices. In the latter part of the lecture, students engaged with the speaker, asking about strategies for enterprises to leverage green consumption effectively.
