My name is Sunil Kumar Kushwaha, and I am from Bihar. I had an accident in 2016 and spent two years on bed rest. When the doctors told me that I would never be able to walk again, it felt as if the ground had slipped away from under my feet. At that moment, I thought my life was over. I became demotivated and even attempted suicide twice. But God had other plans, and I survived.

Then, I attended a meeting where many people in wheelchairs were present. I met and spoke with them, and they motivated me by showing that life could still be lived well. They told me about the possibility of pursuing higher education at LPU University in Jalandhar, Punjab. So, I started teaching tuition alongside my 12th-grade studies, teaching 80 students for two years. After completing 12th grade, I moved to LPU University for my graduation.

I began my BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) in 2019, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the university closed, and I went back home. During the pandemic, our family’s financial condition worsened, and my family asked me to quit my studies. But I remembered what I had seen at LPU – that if I worked hard, I could achieve something and make my future easier. Therefore, I decided that I had to continue my studies no matter what.

I started looking for work to save up one lakh rupees. I worked at a grocery store for two years, saved up the money, and contributed it to a committee. This allowed me to receive a monthly income of ₹3000, which enabled me to continue my studies at LPU. I returned to LPU in 2022 and resumed my education, pursuing a BA + B.Ed degree.

During this time, I met the archery coach who encouraged me to work hard. With his support and my dedication, I trained intensively. Within eight months, I secured a spot in the Bihar team with the fourth rank, participated in the Senior National Championship in Ayodhya, and later competed in the Para National Championship, where I achieved sixth rank and reached the quarter-finals.

After two months, I participated in the Olympic trials and, after three attempts, achieved the fourth rank in India, making it to the India camp. Although my journey to the Olympics ended just a few points short, I continued my practice.

My next goal is to win a gold medal at the 2028 Olympics. My achievements would not have been possible without the support of Honorable Chancellor Ashok Mittal Sir and Worthy Pro Chancellor Col (Dr) Rashmi Mittal Ma’m. Their small gesture significantly impacted my life and propelled me forward. I am deeply grateful to them for their support.

Nishan Singh, an M.A. student in Psychology at Lovely Professional University , has demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination in the face of profound personal challenges. In 2018, Nishan, the only child of his parents, suffered a severe car accident that resulted in critical injuries to his cervical spine (C3-C5) and head. Initially, his family was unaware of the severity of his condition. Nishan spent nearly three months in the ICU on a ventilator, and his paralysis rendered him bedridden for an entire year.

This period was marked by intense physical and emotional struggles. Nishan faced severe weakness and dependency, and at times, he contemplated ending his life. However, a small sign of progress—a slight movement in his left thumb—became a beacon of hope and motivation for him to persevere.
