What you'll learn

This summer internship program is designed to provide practical exposure to cyber security using easy-to-learn tools and real-world scenarios. The course focuses on understanding how cyber attacks occur and how network-level data can be analyzed to detect and prevent such attacks. Students will work with tools such as Wireshark, Packet Tracer, and Nmap to capture and analyze traffic, identify vulnerabilities, and simulate secure networks. The program emphasizes hands-on learning with minimal theory, making it highly engaging and industry-relevant.

  • Footprinting and reconnaissance basics, Port scanning and open services Firewalls and Access Control Lists (ACLs), Secure network basics, Hands-on Tools:Nmap (basic scanning), Cisco Packet Tracer (ACL simulation)
  • Introduction to Cyber Security and real-world attacks, Types of attacks: Phishing, Malware, Ransomware, DoS/DDoS, CIA Triad – Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability Ethical hacking and safe practices, Basics of network communication from a security perspective
  • IP address, ports, and protocols (TCP/UDP basics), DNS and HTTP from a security viewpoint How attackers use network information, Hands-on Tools: ipconfig / ifconfig, ping, netstat
  • Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) concept, ARP Spoofing and DNS Spoofing (overview) Packet sniffing attacks, Basics of encryption, hashing, HTTPS and SSL/TLS Hands-on: ARP/DNS traffic in Wireshark, Compare HTTP vs HTTPS behavior
  • Packet capture and interface selection, Protocol analysis: TCP, DNS, HTTP, Packet filtering and inspection, Identifying suspicious traffic, Hands-on: Capture live traffic, Apply filters (IP, DNS, HTTP), Analyze browsing and network behavior
  • Identifying suspicious network activity, Real-world cyber attack case studies, Secure network practices Mini Projects, Case study, Cyber security analysis
