Objective of the Policy

The purpose of introducing teaching fellowships is to attract meritorious and research-intensive scholars for pursuing Ph.D. at LPU. These fellowships are intended to produce quality scholars with relevant training for academic and academic-related careers in teaching and research. We hereby, float teaching fellowships to engage scholars in quality research and sharpening their teaching skills.

Eligibility Criteria for Teaching Fellowship

The fellowship is available to Ph.D. scholars with good communication skills as well as teaching skills. Preference will be given to NET/GATE/GPAT qualified candidates, scholars from premier institutes, and to those having previous teaching and research experience.

Duration of Fellowship

The fellowship shall be initially granted for one academic term only. However, it may be extended based on the scholar’s satisfactory performance and the availability of teaching assistant positions in the concerned department/school.

Details of Fellowship

  • The teaching fellowship awardee will be paid an honorarium of Rs. 21,600/ per month (consolidated).
  • The scholar is required to take a teaching load of a minimum six credits and upto 10 contact hours/week.

Terms & Conditions

    The following terms and conditions are applicable to scholars availing of fellowship:
  • The scholar will perform all the duties & responsibilities related to his/her class such as maintenance of attendance, evaluation of CA components or assignments, etc
  • He /she will attend the course coordinator meetings.
  • Classroom teaching evaluation by the concerned HOD will apply to them.
  • During the non-teaching period, such scholars may be given summer classes/invigilation or admission duty equivalent to a minimum of 6 credits or being decided by the university.
  • No administrative responsibilities would be given to the scholars during the tenure of the fellowship.
  • One leave per month will be provided to them.
  • Morning biometric attendance is mandatory (morning & evening) on the day of classes.

Fellowship Selection Process

After completion of coursework, the scholar will submit an application in the prescribed format to the Centre of Research Degree Programmes with a copy of his/her resume. The list of the candidates will be submitted to HR for further processing.

Disbursement of Fellowship

The disbursement of the fellowship shall be processed by the “Division of Human Resources” as per the terms and conditions.

University Research contingency of maximum Rs 30,000/- for duration of first 4 years may be given to the Ph.D. research scholars for the purchase of any required material that includes consumables, glassware, and for analysis purposes by taking into consideration for the following points.

  • Rs. 30,000/- Research contingency amount can be availed by the Ph.D. scholars with a maximum of Rs 10,000/- per year during the first 4 years of their Ph.D. programme.
  • The Research contingency amount of Rs 10,000/- per year can be utilized in the same year. The remaining amount will not be carry forward to the next year.
  • The Research contingency amount can be utilized for the purchase/analysis purpose as per the list mentioned below:
    • Consumables: This will include chemicals, media, culture, microorganism strains, or any such consumable items.
    • Glassware: Glassware is specifically required to carry out the research work.
    • Analysis: This includes the analysis/testing of samples prepared during the research work. This may include analysis like NMR, XRD, Material testing, EDX, SEM, TEM etc.

Note :

  • Scholars cannot utilize the contingency for the upcoming years in the current year.
  • In case there is an urgency of chemicals, the same can be purchased by the Ph.D. scholars through the respective Head of Lab (HOL) so that the scholar can avail the maximum discount benefit from the supplier and the bills can be reimbursed through HOL once the chemicals are received by respective HOL. Only those bills will be reimbursed which are made in favor of Lovely Professional University.
  • The bills of only current financial year are to be processed for availing the contingency amount applicable. The bills for the previous financial years shall not be entertained for availing the contingency amount.

Additional benefits for LPU Faculty and Staff for Ph.D. Programmes (taking admission in August 2025 Session and onward):

Duty Leave for Course Work:

  • Two hours weekly relaxation to attend coursework classes on Saturday from 2.00-5.00 PM without taking any leave.
  • Extended PPW (Pay Proportionate Work) Policy where faculty can avail leaves to carry out the research work and shall be paid for the proposition of official contact hours in the campus. The leave can be availed as per the existing University Policy.
  • Fee waiver will be applicable as per University Policy.

To attract the quality scholars, a policy is proposed to provide financial support for Ph.D. scholars in order to enhance their visibility at different platforms to explore a better experience of latest happenings in research; LPU may provide financial support in the form of travel grant for National & International Conferences.

1. Eligibility

All Ph.D. students of LPU can apply for travel grant under this policy only for presenting research papers in Scopus-indexed conferences (National / International) within India or abroad. Scholar shall be eligible to apply travel grant only after completion of SAS (State of the Art Seminar) and before the pre-submission seminar activity. The minimum eligibility conditions are given below:

  • have completed his/her course work with CGPA ≥ 9
  • have cleared SAS within the first year of Ph.D. duration.
  • have 75% attendance (minimum) in an ongoing semester.
  • have already published at least one research paper and one review paper in unpaid journals only indexed by Scopus / Web of Science (excluding ESCI) with Impact Factor (IF) > = 1 or SJR > = 0.34
  • have presented one paper in national/ international conference (Scopus indexed in India).
International or National conferences held in India
  • have completed his/her course work with CGPA ≥ 8
  • have cleared SAS within the first year of Ph.D. duration.
  • have 75% attendance (minimum) in an ongoing semester.
  • have already published either one research paper or a review paper published in unpaid journals only indexed by Scopus with Impact Factor (IF) > = 1 or SJR >= 0.34

2. No. of Grants and Amount of Travel Grants

University will provide in total 20 National Travel Grants and 5 International Travel Grants across all the schools (list of schools given in Annexure-II) of the University per year with a cap of maximum 5 National Travel Grants and maximum 2 International travel grants from the same school in a year.

  • Travelling allowance for 2 AC rail/bus fare.
  • Lodging charges for conference days.
  • Registration fee: maximum amount of Rs 8000/- for International conference or Rs. 6000/- for National conference or actual whichever is less. The sum of (a) + (b) + (c) would not exceed INR 15,000/- (max.)
    Note:
  • The cheapest airfare (economy class)/Train-fare (3AC) shall be considered under this policy.
  • The boarding pass, air travel tickets and other receipts in support of T.A. (including local travel expenses), lodging charges and registration fee shall be submitted for settlement of accounts within a period of 10 days from the date of return.

4. Terms & Conditions for Travel Grant

  • The Ph.D. scholar shall be eligible to avail travel grant to present a paper in Scopus-indexed conferences:
    • One time only for the conference being held within India and, one time only for a conference held at abroad.
    • The presented paper in either conference (held within India or abroad) must be indexed in Scopus indexed conference proceedings.
    • All the expenses covered in point 7.3.3 shall be reimbursed only after the presented papers get indexed in Scopus indexed conferences proceedings/ Journals and verified and recommended by Research & Development Cell, LPU.
  • Not more than two research scholars shall be provided financial assistance to attend a particular conference.
  • The scholar shall submit the prescribed application form duly signed by his/her supervisor, invitation letter, letter of acceptance of research paper for presentation at the conference and No Objection Certificate from co-author of research paper to CRDP.
  • Recommendation of the person committee members (Head, CRDP and Nominee, DRD shall be needed for considering the application for travel grant to Ph.D. scholars.

5. Reimbursement Process

  • The Ph.D. scholar will submit the details of expenses covered with valid documentary proof along with copy of publish indexed paper in Scopus indexed conference proceedings/journals to the Centre for Research Degree Programmes (CRDP) and recommendations from the screening committee.
  • After Verification, CRDP will forward the documents to Research & Development Cell (DRD) for final reimbursement settlement as per the university policy.

The University is committed to innovative research and encourages its research scholars to target high impact journals by providing cash incentives to them for every publication/research article/conference paper indexed in Scopus.
