Pulse Polio Immunization Drive
The Pulse Polio Immunization Drive organized by Lovely Professional University’s NSS Unit REFORMICA and the Civil Surgeon of Jalandhar from March 3rd to 5th, 2024, was a significant effort in India’s fight against polio. By administering polio drops to children under five at key locations like Jalandhar’s bus and railway stations and Haveli, LPU-NSS volunteers played a crucial role in advancing the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s Pulse Polio Campaign. This initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, by reducing polio prevalence and mitigating economic burdens from polio-related disabilities. The campaign highlights the impact of collaboration between educational institutions and health authorities in promoting public health and underscores the importance of vaccines in preventing communicable diseases, contributing to a healthier, polio-free future.

The Gyandeep Project is a community development initiative under the literacy program of Lovely Professional University (LPU), executed by its National Service Scheme (NSS) unit. This non-profit educational effort aims to provide high-quality, supplementary education to underprivileged children, particularly from low-income communities, to bridge gaps in their learning and reduce dropout rates. The project aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 1 (No Poverty) by empowering children through skill-based education to break the cycle of poverty. The project has educated over 250 children, with 75 currently enrolled, fostering confidence, academic progress, and skills in poetry, dance, art, and storytelling. It has also led to awards and recognition for students competing with peers from private schools.

The Gyandeep Project is an outstanding initiative where volunteers organize educational sessions to visit nearby slums and villages, using animated video clips to teach underprivileged children whose families cannot afford proper education. Computers are a common convenience nowadays, and most of us can’t even imagine living without them. But to a large part of our country’s rural population computers are still an unfathomable mystery. To bridge this educational gap LPU has taken up the community service endeavor of the Computer Literacy Program under the “Gyan Deep Project”. It is an initiative to provide basic computer literacy to the school children/Villagers of nearby adopted villages, who don’t have access to any computer education. Under this program, LPU NSS teams of students and faculty impart free basic computer training to people of nearby villages both on the campus and off site. LPU-NSS has a dedicated library on its campus for the needy students of adopted as well as the nearby village. Books keep on updating from time to time.
