What you'll learn

This course provides a practical pathway for building financial models in Excel supported by freely accessible AI tools. Learners work through real datasets to construct integrated statements, forecast performance, and run deal models with clear workflows. Sessions focus on hands-on model building rather than theory. Participants complete a full three-statement model, an LBO structure, and an AI-assisted company analysis framework usable for any firm. Learning Outcomes 1. Construct integrated financial statements and link core model drivers across Excel worksheets. 2. Generate and evaluate forecasting logic to build multi-year projections under varied scenarios. 3. Design and test an LBO model structure with debt flows, covenants, and equity return blocks. 4. Diagnose model errors, refine calculations, and strengthen internal consistency using AI support. 5. Critique a firm’s financial position and produce insight-driven analysis through AI-assisted workflows.

  • Overview of real-world financial statements, Excel structure setup, importing income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow data, and preparing the modelling workspace.
  • Construction of revenue, cost and margin blocks, linking historical data, building driver-based logic, and validating statement integrity.
  • Modelling assets, liabilities, and equity, building working capital schedules, PP&E roll-forward, and linking across statements.
  • Developing indirect cash flow structure, mapping operating, investing and financing flows, and connecting outputs with balance sheet and income statement.
  • Creating assumptions for growth, margins, capital expenditure and working capital; building scenario sheets; projecting future income statement, balance sheet and cash flow.
  • Developing purchase price bridge, sources and uses, debt schedules, interest flows and equity return calculations, including IRR evaluation.
  • Integrating all model components into a single Excel workbook, conducting checks, refining layout, and preparing a presentable output.
  • Using free AI tools to interpret model outputs, evaluate financial strength, generate insights and produce stock-market-oriented investment commentary.
