GUIDELINES AND ELIGIBILITY FOR D.Litt./ D.Sc./ LL.D.

INTRODUCTION

The Doctor of Science (D.Sc.), Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) and Doctor of Laws (LL.D) are the highest post-doctoral degrees of the university. The university shall award D.Sc. Degree in the disciplines of Science, Engineering, Technology and other related areas; D.Litt. in the disciplines of Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, Design, Creative Arts and other related areas; LL.D in the discipline of Law and other related areas to a candidate whose work and research have made distinct contributions to the advancement of knowledge. The contribution must be original in the sense of opening up of new avenues of research, or of making a marked advancement on the results of previous investigations, or of giving a new interpretation of the facts already known. The candidate must have a documented mastery on a particular area or field.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERION

Eligibility for D.Sc.
A candidate who is awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in the disciplines of Science, Engineering, Technology and other related areas by this university or degree recognized equivalent thereto from any other university may present his/her candidacy for the degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) provided he/she must have:

Done post-doctoral work in Science, Engineering, Technology and other related areas for a minimum period of 2 years and have published 10 research papers in WoS/ Scopus indexed journals as first or corresponding author and have h-index more than 10.
or
Post Ph.D. experience of more than 2 years in Science, Engineering, Technology and other related areas, 2 patents (at least 1 international patent) in relevant discipline and his/her research work and efforts should have national and international recognition and have made a distinct contribution to the society and advancement of knowledge.
or
Post Ph.D. experience of more than 2 years in Science, Engineering, Technology and other related areas, at least three recommendations/ referrals of his research or contribution from nationally/ internationally recognized experts in the concerned field and his/her work and effort which should have made a distinct contribution to the society and advancement of knowledge.

Eligibility for D.Litt.

A candidate who is awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in the disciplines of Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, Design, Creative Arts and other related areas by this University or degree recognized equivalent thereto from any other University may present his/her candidacy for the Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) provided that he/she:

Done post-doctoral work in Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, Design, Creative Arts and other related areas for a minimum period of 2 years and has published 10 research papers in Scopus indexed journals as first author or corresponding author and have h-index more than 10.

or
Post Ph.D. experience of more than 2 years in Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, Design, Creative Arts and other related areas, at least three recommendations/ referrals of his research/ contribution from nationally/ internationally recognized experts of concerned field and his/her work and efforts has made distinct contributions to the society and advancement of knowledge.

Eligibility for LL.D.

A candidate who is awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in the discipline of Law and related areas by this University or degree recognized equivalent thereto from any other University may present his/her candidacy for the Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) provided that he/she has:

Minimum 2 years post Ph.D. teaching experience and has published 10 research papers in Scopus indexed journals as first author or corresponding author and should also have h-index more than 10.

or
Have post Ph.D. experience of more than 2 years in the discipline of law and related areas, at least three recommendations/referrals of his work or contribution from nationally/internationally recognized experts of concerned field and his/her work and efforts has made distinct contributions to the society in the field of law.

APPLICATION PROCESS

A candidate seeking to submit his candidacy for D.Sc./ D.Litt./ LL.D. shall apply to Division of Admissions along with the following documents and requirements:

  • Bio-data with full particulars (academic and research)
  • Title of the proposed research work
  • A brief account of his/ her recent research work (in about 1000 words)
  • List of publications, books, policy documents, newspaper articles, magazine articles etc.
  • Reprints of best 10 research papers
  • Proof of h-index
  • Details of contribution to society in any one or more areas – social, education, development and finance, global policy, international relations, health, environmental issues, politics, science and technology, innovation, industry and entrepreneurship and ethics etc.
  • Attested copies of certificates in support of qualifications and experience
  • Processing fee of Rs. 3000/-
  • Detail of Referrals/Recommendations
  • Proof of Patents

University Post-Doctoral Research Degree Board will scrutinize and evaluate the submitted proposal for the candidacy of D.Sc./ D.Litt./ LL.D. On recommendations of the UPRDB, the candidate will be asked to give a presentation before the Board for the candidacy of D. Sc./D.Litt./LL.D. A candidate can also be evaluated through Skype / Online mode if he/she is not able to come in person for defending his proposal (for admission). Once the proposal is approved, the candidate will be allowed to register for D.Sc./D.Litt./LL.D by paying a semester fee of Rs.10,000.

GUIDELINES

Allocation of supervisor

As such no supervisor will be given to D. Sc./ D. Litt. / LL.D. candidate, but if a candidate ask for supervisor, a doctorate faculty can be allotted to the candidate for the administrative help.


Duration of the Programme

Minimum duration of the programme will be 2 years (after UPRDB approves the candidacy) and maximum duration will be 3 years.


Submission of Thesis

A candidate, whose candidacy has been accepted/approved for D.Sc./D.Litt./LL.D. will be asked to appear for pre-submission seminar before the University Post-Doctoral Research Degree Board (UPRDB). The board will give its recommendations to School of Research Degree Programmes (SRDP) and candidate will be informed about the recommendations. After receiving approval for final submission, the candidate can submit the thesis within the stipulated time period of 3 months.


Evaluation of Thesis

The candidate is required to submit five copies (hardbound) and a soft copy of the thesis along with the abstract and a declaration stating that the work done has not been submitted for any other degree. He/she shall have to deposit a thesis evaluation fee of Rs. 25,000/.

  • The thesis submitted by the candidate will be sent to three external examiners (two examiners from India and one examiner from foreign countries) selected by the Vice-Chancellor/ Chairman of UPRDB, from out of a panel of six external examiners (four national and two international) submitted by the Division of Academic Affairs.
  • Each examiner shall send detailed report in the prescribed Performa. If the thesis is recommended for revision, the candidate shall be required to submit the revised thesis within six months.
  • If all the examiners recommend unanimously the award of the Degree, and if the University Post-Doctoral Research Degree Board considers the case to be fit and proper, the thesis shall be recommended for the award of the degree.

Award of Degree

Notification for the award of degree will be issued by the Division of Examination after getting approval of Vice Chancellor / Chairman of UPRDB.
