Former Minister for Law and Justice of India, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Envoy of PM Manmohan Singh to Japan and a master of multi-faceted personality, Dr Ashwani Kumar visited Lovely Professional University, today, and interacted with LPU Students. On this occasion, Dr Kumar’s second book ‘Hope in a Challenged Democracy – An Indian Narrative’ was also launched. On this occasion, Dr Kumar shared his great experiences with LPU students as a Minister, MP, Governor, CBI Director, IPS Officer, Politician, Policy-Maker, Once the youngest Additional Solicitor General of India, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court, Visitor to 30+ top countries under Indian Mission, and, above all, as a great lover of sports particularly Wrestling & Table Tennis.
LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal greeted the elite guest Dr Ashwani at the campus and informed students in details about his great personality and achievements made. Mr Mittal also shared about the great strength of democracy in India.
Addressing LPU students, Dr Ashwani said: “It was my heart-felt desire to launch this book amid great diversity and larger number of students at LPU campus so that message contained in this should reach to all the areas of the country and in foreign lands. In this book, I have spoken about the important issues concerning democracy. I want to affirm our all leaders that we must civilize ourselves in the use of power. To strengthen democracy, we must raise right kind of leadership so that we may have only those leaders who come forward to serve in true sense of the words instead of making fake commitments and assurances. I feel, no doubt we have progressed economically but we are down socially.” At this juncture, he was pointing towards the wicked war of words among the top leaders during elections, which takes all away from the right type of prevalent problems and issues. Dr Kumar added: “I want we all should work together to uplift our democracy so that we may have leaders who are farsighted, determined, able, and soft-spoken.”
Critically appreciated in high esteems by former PM of France, Lord Karan Billimoria (Member House of Lords, UK), and many other international & national leaders; the book ‘Hope’is a must read book for all. Professor of Legal Philosophy at University of Oxford Dr Timothy Endicott holds fast to the hope asserted in the title of the book and says: “It is not a simplistic hope, because the author is candid and hard-hitting in identifying the challenges that India faces internally, and in world political and economic affairs. The Hope of the title lies close to Dr Kumar’s work as a lawyer and in politics, and it centers on constitutionalism.” Prior to this, Dr Kumar has also authored a book titled ‘Law, Ideas and Ideology in Politics; Perspectives of an Activist’ in 2003.
