Below given is an indicative and not an exhaustive list of the Scholarships offered by various Institutions in India, compiled on the basis of web information on various external links. The information so given is just for facilitating the students for searching need based Scholarships, if required. General Scholarship Type Eligibility Reference
Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for single girl Child Compensates direct costs of girl education to all levels especially for such girls who happen to be the only girl child in their families.
  • Any single girl child of her parents only. In a family if one son and one daughter is available then girl child will not be considered for scholarship under the scheme.
  • Girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in PG courses are eligible.
  • No tuition fees will be charged from girl students to pursue PG degree course in Universities/Colleges/Institutions covered under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act.
  • A student who is awarded the Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship will not be debarred from accepting any other scholarship.

The Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarships 2011 Interest free loan scholarships to Indian students with a consistently good academic record. The amount of scholarship, up to a maximum of Rs. Ten Lacs, is decided as per the assessment of the Foundation.

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships for College Students To provide financial assistance to meritorious students from low-income families to meet day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies.
  • The student should have scored a minimum 80% of marks in Class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent.
  • The student should belong to non-creamy layer as defined by the Department of Personnel and Training in their Notification No 36012/22/93-Estt. (SCT), dated 08.11.1993 and as modified vide their OM No. 36033/3/2004-Estt. (Res) dated 09.03.2004
  • The student should not be availing of any other scholarship scheme.
  • The reservation would be applicable in terms of Central Reservation Policy and internal earmarking.
  • The Undergraduate/Postgraduate/Professional courses are pursued in a recognized college/ institution in India.

Indian Oil Corporation Scholarships Scheme Scholarships for meritorious students all over India covering the first year students of 10+ / ITI, Engineering, MBBS and MBA
  • Minimum 15 years and maximum 30 years as on 1.9.2011. Persons born between 1.9.81 and 1.9.96 (both days inclusive) are eligible to apply.
  • Students pursuing full time courses in these streams & studying in Schools/Colleges/Institutions/Universities recognized by MCI/AICTE/State Education Boards/ State Govt. / ICSC/CBSE/Central Govt./Association of Indian universities
  • The student should have bonafide admission in the 1st year of School/College/Institute/University in the academic year 2010-2011.

Indian Oil Sports Scholarship Scheme IndianOil Sports Scholarships to promising young players with a view to encourage talent and create a pool of sportspersons from  whom to select sport appointees to the Corporation
  • The sports scholarship player will not be entitled to draw any other scholarship / financial aid / stipend from any other source whatsoever for sporting activity.
  • The duration of sports scholarship shall be for a period of 3 years. After the completion of one year duration period of sports scholarship; the performance of the players will be reviewed based on his performance / achievements in the State level / National level and All India Ranking tournaments, for junior / sub-juniors. Based on the same, sports scholarship will be extended for the second year.

Scholarship For Higher Studies A component of the `Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)’ being implemented by the Department of Science Technology (DST), New Delhi.
  • The candidates studying courses in natural/basic sciences (B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons), integrated M.Sc.) in any one of the recognized institutions in India.
  • Based on Performance in Board Examinations: The candidates should have obtained aggregate marks in the top 1% in the board examination at both class X and XII levels
  • Based on Performance in Competitive Examinations (specified in Table 2).: Performance within the top 10,000 ranks in Joint Entrance Examination of IIT, AIEEE (Engineering)

Mahindra All India Talent Scholarships

Maulana Azad National Scholarship To recognize, promote and assist meritorious Girl students belonging to National Minorities who cannot continue their education without financial support.
  • Only Girl Students belonging to National Minorities, (i.e. Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Parsis) can apply
  • Should have secured not less than 55% marks (in aggregate) in the secondary school certificate examination (Class xth) conducted by any recognized Centre/State Board of Secondary Education.
  • Family income of the student from all sources should be less than Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees one lakh only) in the preceding financial year
  • A student getting a scholarship from any other source would not be eligible for this Scholarship.

Young Science Fellowship Programme (YSFP) This fellowship is for toppers in PUC /12th Standard who wish to pursue studies / research in Science / Mathematics.
  • Student must have passed PUC / 12th Standard or equivalent examination and must be a topper (top 20 ranks or equivalent) in the Board / University. In cases where ranks are not declared like CBSE/ICSE, he/she must have obtained a high level of distinction of the Board or be within the top 1% of the students taking the examination. In the absence of this data, suitable criterion will be evolved by IISc.
  •  Student must have studied Mathematics as one of the   subjects at +2 levels.
  • Student must have joined B. Sc/Integrated M.Sc programme in any branch (es) of Science and Mathematics at any College / University in India.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Scholarship The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited grants these scholarships to students who possess exceptional merit for their higher studies.
  • Candidates who seek these scholarships must not be above 25 years of age at the time of applying.
  • The candidates should have attained a minimum score of 60% at the Bachelors level.
  • Only those candidates who have registered in a permanent postgraduate degree courses are suitable to apply for this scholarship.

InLaks Scholarship Abroad
(for the students of Twinning programme in the masters degree)
Inlaks Scholarships provide the opportunity to young people with exceptional talent in any field to broaden their vision abroad and improve their skills to operate in society, thus making them a future vehicle of change in their environment. The scholarships are of two types: university courses and specific programs.
  • Scholarships are open to all Indians of either sex who hold a good degree from a recognized university and are resident in India at the time of application. All applicants must have done their first degree in India.
  • It is essential to have prior admission to the institution and course chosen. The Foundation will not consider candidates without admission or pending admission. The institutions concerned must only be top rank.
  • Candidates must be below 30 years of age on the first of July in the year of application. Preference will be given to candidates who have not yet studied abroad. Candidates who are already studying or have started their program abroad are not eligible.

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) The “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana” is an ongoing program started by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to encourage students of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine to take up research careers in these areas. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented students with aptitude for research.
  • Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) in the current year and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in Science and Mathematics in X standard Board Examination.
  • Stream SB+2: Students enrolled in Class 12 (+2) of the academic year 2010 - 2011 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (B.Sc/B.S./Intd. M.Sc) for the session 2011 - 2012 provided they secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board Examination.
  • Stream SB: Students enrolled in 1st year B.Sc. degree/Integrated M.Sc. degree (UG Programme in Basic Sciences) and having secured a minimum of 60% (50%for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in Science and Mathematics in XII standard Board Examination.
  • Stream EB: Students enrolled in second year B.E./B.Tech/B. Arch and having a minimum of 60% marks (50% for SC/ST)in the first year exam of B.U B.Tech/B. Arch. A research project is required.

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Scholarship A candidate is eligible for Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Scholarship/ Assistantship in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy/Sciences at engineering colleges/institutes in the country
  • The candidate must secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution
  • He/She must be GATE qualified

Junior Research Fellowship in Engineering & Technology The scheme is meant for candidates who wish to pursue research leading to a Ph.D. degree in engineering and technology.
  • Minimum qualifications are a master's degree in engineering/technology/pharmacy, with 55 per cent marks.
  • Candidates need to hold an M.E./M.Tech. Degree.
  • The age limit is 40 years as on 1 July of the year of award, extendable by five years for women and SC/ST candidates.
  • A total of 22.5 per cent of the fellowships are reserved for candidates belonging to SC/ST who fulfil the requisite qualifications laid down for the award.
  • In case of non-availability of SC/ST candidates, these slots will be made available to general candidates

Shri Brihad Bharatiya Samaj Scholarships It offers Scholarships for the Indian students and overseas students of Indian origin, undergoing full-time Degree courses in Indian Universities and IITs. Also, for or higher studies abroad in Engineering, Technology, Medicine and similar Professional Courses.     Minimum of 70% marks for First year students/Rest  with minimum 60% marks in their last University examination
  • Female students studying in first year and above for Nursing and Education [minimum of 45% marks] are eligible
  • Annual income should be Less than Rs.60,000/-
  • The age of students at the time of application should not be above 27 years.
  • They must possess a First Class degree with a recognized Indian University and have consistently First Class academic record right from SSC examination.

The Young Talent IT Scholarship, The Dr. G.B. Scholarships Foundation The scholarship purports to identify deserving bright candidates who intend to pursue an IT career and support their education with a one-time scholarship of Rs. 25000/- towards furthering their opportunity in quality IT Education.
  • Students currently in the final year of undergraduate education, in programmes that will qualify them for admission to post-graduate education in Computer Applications / Information Technology (BCA, B.Sc. Computer Science, B Com, B.Sc. Mathematics, etc.)
  • Students who have consistently maintained a good academic record in the UG programme (60% and above average grades / Nil arrears )
  • Students who specifically intend to get admission at one of the recognized institutions for Postgraduate education in Information Technology / Computer Applications.

Answers.com Scholarship for School Students in India This scholarship is for students planning to be enrolled in undergraduate classes during the 2011-2012 academic year.  
  • Applicants must be high school seniors or students enrolled in undergraduate classes in college.
  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or India.
  • Applicants must have answered a minimum of 50 questions after January 1, 2011 on the Answers.com website. These should be the first answers given to previously unanswered questions on the website.
  • Applicants must be planning to enroll in undergraduate classes in a college located in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or India for the fall term immediately following announcement of winners.
 

Lila Poonawalla Foundation  Merit Cum Need Based Scholarships Applications are invited for Post-Graduate studies in India or abroad in any discipline, for the academic year 2011 – 2012 from Pune District.
  • Age: Below 30 years
  •  "B" Category: For Indian - Income limit upto Rs. 4,50,000/- and marks 60% & above for 10th, 12th and graduation - Application form cost - Rs. 300/-
  •  "C" Category: For Indian - Income less than Rs. 3,00,000/- and marks between 50% to 60% for 10th, 12th and graduation - Application form cost - Rs. 200/-
  •  Students in the final year of the degree course, awaiting results, are eligible to apply
  •  Candidate should be domicile or have lived in Pune district for last five years
  • Students who are fully funded need not apply.

The Foundation for Excellence To help economically underprivileged and academically bright students in India complete their higher education. The primary focus of the Scholarship Program is to assist students for studies in professional courses leading to degrees in engineering, technology, or medicine.
  • New, first time applicants are eligible to apply for a scholarship only when they are in the first year of a professional degree course in engineering, technology or medicine.
  • To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must meet certain academic excellence and family income requirements.
  • The gross family income criteria are Rs. 1,20,000 per year.
  • In addition to gross family income, education and occupation of parents and family members and family living conditions will be taken into consideration for determining the financial eligibility of an applicant.

Sikh Human Development Foundation Grants By providing scholarships to bright but poor students in Punjab and neighboring states for higher professional education in a large variety of disciplines.

The Aga Khan Foundation Scholarship Programme 2011-2012, Kenya Provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant : 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year in June or July.

ASSAM GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships to needy and meritorious undergraduate as well as postgraduate students every year. "Study programme: Postgraduate study Applicant profile: Residents of Assam"
Foundation For Academic Excellence And Access (FAEA) grant scholarships to pursue undergraduate studies in arts/commerce/science/medical/engineering and other technical and professional disciplines at any university/institution/college of student’s choice anywhere in India. These scholarships are sponsored by Confederation of Indian Industry, Tata Group of Companies and others. (i) Students who have passed Class XII from a recognized board in India. Those in the 1st year of the under-graduate course (any discipline) are also eligible to apply.
GBK Charitable Trust For poor students studying MBBS, BDS, Pharmacy, BE, B. Tech, LLB, BCA, MCA, MBA, MA, M. Com, B. Ed, M. Ed, Ph. D (for research material), nursing, polytechnic, graduation, inter, TTC., ITI., Distance education, post graduation
  • In the previous subjects must have at least 60% marks.
  • One person is eligible from family. However for orphans two members can be apply.
  • The monthly income should not exceed by Rs. 4000.
 

Human Welfare Trust These scholarships are given as an interest-free loan to the students. It needs to be repaid after graduation and gainful employment, in easy installments. The repaid fund will be used to provide scholarships for other deserving students to ensure its continuity in the long run. For the academically meritorious and financially needy young students to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate studies .
Kerala Govt.Scholarships Scholarships offered by Directorate of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala. The main objective of the Collegiate Education department is to impart best quality higher education to the eligible students of the State who complete their higher secondary level education.
  • Applicant should have scored a minimum of 80% of marks in the Plus 2/ VHS Examinations, March 2010 conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Education / Board of Vocational Higher Secondary Education, Government of Kerala.
  • Applicant should be pursuing any Regular Course at Under-Graduate Degree level in any recognized Educational Institution, including Professional Courses such as Medical, Engineering etc. Students pursuing Parallel/ Private Registration/ Correspondence/ Distance Education courses are not eligible toapply for this scholarship.
  • Parental income (Both Father and Mother) should not exceed Rs. 4 1/2 lakhs per annum  for the financial year ending March 2010.
  •  Applicant should not be availing any other scholarships/ Financial Assistance.
  •  Applicants should not be belonging to the Creamy-layer as defined by the Department of Personal and Training in their Notification number36012/22/93 Esst.(SCT) dated 8/11/93 (Annexure IV) and as modified vide their OM No.36033/3/2004-Esst(Res) Dated: 9/3/2004 (Annexure V) and as may be modified from time to time.

Islamic Development Bank Scholarships Straight financial assistance to needy and qualified students
  • Have secured minimum 60% marks in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics in SSC (10+2) examination.
  • Applicants for bachelor courses in Business Administration (BBA) and Law have scored minimum 60% marks in English and optional/elective subjects in SSC (10+2).
    Age not over 24 years and not in receipt of any other scholarship.
  • Students or his/her parents are financially weak and unable to pay for his/her education. Students opting for payment seats need not apply.
  • Students benefiting from this scholarship must undertake to serve his/her community and country on completion of their studies for a period not less than the duration of the scholarship.
 

The OPEC Fund For International Development The OFID scholarship will be awarded to support one student or candidate for Master’s degree studies.
  • Must be between the ages of 23-32 at the time of submitting his/her application.
  • Must have obtained or be on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree with a Baccalaureate from an accredited college/university, or its equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 rating system, or its equivalent.
  • Must be matriculated at an accredited university for the upcoming academic year starting August/September 2011, and must maintain full-time status for the duration of the Master's Degree.
  • Must be a national of a developing country (please see list of eligible countries below)
  • Must select a subject of study that pertains to OFID’s core mission, such as: economics of development (poverty reduction, energy and sustainable development), environment (desertification), or other related science and technology fields.

Punjab WAKF Board Punjab WAKF Board gives scholarship to the needy and meritorious students of the Punjab State to continue their studies. Students who are studying in MBBS, BDS, MBA, Engineering & Diploma course etc. are getting special scholarship from the Punjab Wakf Board.

North South Foundation (NSF) The NSF Scholarship program in India is designed to encourage excellence among the poor children who excel academically but need help to attend college. Each scholarship is $250 per student per year.
  • Scholarships are provided to needy children who display academic excellence in India, who need financial support to pursue their quest for knowledge in engineering, medicine, polytechnic, science and other fields.

R D Sethna Scholarship Fund The R D Sethna Scholarship Fund grants only loan scholarships to students who are citizens of India, regardless of community, caste or creed.
  • Only those applicants who have passed at least the Secondary School Certificate examination or other equivalent examination and who have secured not less than 50% of the total marks in the last examination given by them prior to the making of the applications are eligible to apply for a loan scholarship.
 
  • The person proposed as guarantor must be a male, and permanent resident in Mumbai having a monthly income of not less than Rs.10,000/- for applicants pursuing studies in India and Rs.15,000/- for applicants pursuing studies overseas.
  • Applicants must submit letters of recommendation from 2 recommenders who are permanent residents in Mumbai.

Sima Khatib Scholarship Meritorious students from institutions in Maharashtra who have received good rating / ranking in 10th / 12th / CET examinations, desirous of pursuing professional education are provided support for their full educational programme.
  • Family income should not exceed Rs. 2 Lacs p.a.
  • Confirmation of admission to the Institution where the further education is to be pursued will be required.

NTPC Scholarship Scheme for Engineering Students, India NTPC is offering 35 scholarships to students belonging to Schedule Caste / Schedule Tribe / Physically Challenged categories pursuing full time degree course in Engineering.
  • Students belonging to SC / ST / Physically Challenged categories (Visually Handicapped / Hearing Handicapped / Orthopedically Handicapped) and pursuing full time degree course in Engineering in the disciplines of Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electronics / Telecommunication from a college / university / institute recognized by the Government of India and should be in the Third Year in the session 2011 – 2012.

Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship Scheme The objectives of this award is to provide fellowship in the form of financial assistance to students belonging to SC/ST to pursue studies leading to M. Phil/ Ph. D degree (full time) in Sciences, Engg. & Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • The candidates should have a Post Graduate degree in the concerned subject & registered for M.Phil/Ph.D in recognized University/Institute/College.
  • The candidate should belond to the SC/ST category.

U.G.C. Scheme For Award Of Post Graduate Scholarships for
Professional Courses for SC/ST Candidates
The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to 1000 SC/ST candidates to pursue postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects at recognized Indian Universities/Institutions/Colleges.
  • The candidate must have obtained Graduate degree in the relevant subject and obtained admission at Postgraduate level for regular full time course in any of the Professional subject in a recognized University/Institution/College. Candidates pursuing post graduate course in professional subjects by correspondence or by Distance Education mode are not eligible to receive financial assistance under this scheme. The upper age limit for male applicants is 45 years as on 1st July on the year of application, and 50 years in the case of female candidates. In exceptional cases, the age may be relaxed.

Post Matric Scholarships for Scheduled Castes /Scheduled Tribes Students The Post Matric Scholarships enables a considerable number of Scheduled Caste students to obtain post-matric and higher level of education resulting in their overall educational and economic development.
  • The scholarships are open to nationals of India.
  • These scholarships will be given for the study of all recognized post-matriculation or post-secondary courses pursued in recognized institutions
  • Only those candidates who belong to Scheduled Castes so specified in relation to the State/Union Territory to which the applicant actually belongs

Central Sector Scholarship of Top Class Education for SC students Objective of the scheme is to promote qualitative education amongst SC students, by providing full financial support for pursuing studies beyond 12th class.
  • SC students whose total family income is up to Rs. 2 lakhs per annum will be eligible for the scholarship.

Post-Matric Scholarships to the other Backward Classes for Studies in India The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the OBCs students studying at post matriculation or post secondary stage to enable them to complete their education.
  • The scholarships will be open to India nationals belonging to OBCs as notified by the Central Govt./State Govt. UT Admn
  • These scholarships will be given for the study of all recognized post-matriculation or post-secondary courses pursued in recognized institutions
  • The scholarships will be open to those who belong to OBCs so specified in relation to the State/UT to which the applicant actually belongs, i.e. permanently settled and who have passed the Matriculation or Higher secondary or any higher examination of a recognized University or Board of Secondary Education will be eligible
 

National Scholarships for Persons with Disabilities Financial assistance will be given for pursuing post-Matric/Post-Secondary technical and professional courses including Ph.D & M.Phil from recognized institutions.
  • Financial assistance will be available to Indian students with at least 40% disabilities certified as per definition under Persons with Disabilities Act 1995.
  • Monthly family income of the beneficiary should not be more than Rs. 15,000/- from all sources. Family income includes income of the parent/guardian

NTPC scholarship shall be awarded to the students pursuing full time degree
course in engineering in the discipline of Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation,
Computer Science and Electronics / Telecommunications in any of the institutions recognized by the Govt. from the second year of full time course within the prescribed period.
  • Students in receipt of NTPC scholarship will not be entitled to draw any other scholarship /financial aid/stipend from any other source whatsoever
  • Students will be selected after they apply against a press advertisement / notification announcing the availability of NTPC scholarships.
 

   Scheme Of Post-Matric Scholarship For Students Belonging To The Minority Communities The objective of the scheme is to award scholarships to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of minority community so as to provide them better opportunities for higher education, increase their rate of attainment in higher education and enhance their employability.
  • Scholarship will be awarded to the students who have secured not less than 50% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and the annual income of whose parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed Rs.2 lakh.
