LPU Student represented India at 12th West Asia Baseball Cup held in Pakistan
LPU student & his team brought bronze medal for the country
Becoming an historic part of the debutant Indian National Baseball Team, LPU student Rakesh Kumar of MA Political Science won bronze medal in 12th West Asia Baseball Cup Tournament. The matches were held at Jinnah Stadium in the capital city- Islamabad of Pakistan. Playing as a pitcher, LPU student played skillfully along with other team members to register a 20-0 defeat over Iraq for securing bronze medal. Team of Pakistan won the cup; whereas team of Iran got silver medal. Presently, LPU student is to attend a selection camp to represent India for international tournaments to be held in South Korea.
Matches for this Baseball Cup were hosted by Pakistan Baseball Federation (PBF). PBF had organized it in conjunction with Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) which is further a strong baseball arm of the World Baseball Softball Confederation in Asia. LPU Pro-Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal congratulated Rakesh for his the best participation which enabled him to win medal for the country.
LPU student is very positive in expression while talking about his coveted participation in the national team. Rakesh shared: “It is indeed great to be included in national team for playing international matches and to win a position for the country. This participation could only be possible due to the vision of my university which keeps on promoting us as per our talents. I have all praise for the host country too which accorded us a warm welcome. I want to quote Pakistan team captain Adil Sardar who expressed that Indians and Pakistanis are similar in many ways.”
