- B.Tech EEE 3rd year student Nidhi Nayan got selected from lakhs of NSS students

One of the National Service Scheme (NSS) students of Lovely Professional University, Nidhi Nayan has been selected to participate in the ceremonial National Republic Day Parade- 2016 to be held at India Gate in New Delhi. It is indeed great national honour for this B.Tech EEE 3rd year LPU student as she will parade in dignity before the President, Prime Minister of India and other top national & international personalities. In the toughest competition, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, has selected her from lakhs of NSS student-volunteers from 5-zones across India. Nidhi has been selected keeping in view her overall performance for parade, cultural activities, proficiency to participate in debate on different social issues, and ability to depict the culture of her state. She will also be awarded with coveted testimonials from President for her substantial participation.
Nidhi will take part in prestigious parade at Rajpath – Vijay Chowk to India Gate- on 26th January 2016. She will parade along with Indian Military, Navy, Air Force, and other Para -Military forces. Feeling proud on being selected for such a coveted opportunity, Nidhi Shared: “On completing 240 hours of NSS service within a year (instead of two), I got this opportunity by being selected at Rajasthan (Sikar) selection camp for seven Northern states. When I had opted LPU as a destination for my higher studies, I never knew that my all aspirations would get materialized so soon. Groomed and motivated well by my teachers at LPU, presently, in addition of being NSS volunteer, I am active Manipuri & Kathak dancer, Sitar player, State level Kabbadi player & Shot-put athlete also. Balancing my studies with these, I am also benefitted with LPU scholarship program.”
Congratulating Nidhi, LPU Pro-Chancellor Smt Rashmi Mittal said: “I am happy and proud that once again one of our talented students has been selected to participate in the top national ceremonial celebration which is witnessed live world over. I would also like to specially mention that in spite of her being a student of technology stream, she has revealed keen interest in cultural aspect also.”
Illustrative, to meet needed care of the community and to supplement the education of students by bringing them face to face with the real social situations; LPU department of Community Services Cell has ten NSS Units at the Campus. Each student volunteer contributes 240 hours of community work during a period of two years. While undertaking activities, each student is also expected to instill within strong discipline, character, physical fitness and culture.
